I would back up my partner in clubs then pass next time round. South must have 6+ points hopefully more & length in clubs will help. and the missing picture clubs , hopefully only the king or queen with the opponents, then you have the top five bar one in clubs, & the lower clubs to trump tricks.
The hand is a classic 1NT opener……balanced and 12-14 Pts. Plenty of time to explore major fits following partners response. If you bid and agree a 1S opening bid you may just get stuck in 4S when 3NT is easier
Oh no … do I have to change back again??? Alan help me!!!

I stress that the hand was one I made at random. But it is an interesting one from my point of view since it is a typical hand I normally get served up. It also causes me a dilemma, i.e. do I bid or not and if I do what do I bid? I have been known to pass such a hand but I am wrong to do so. I have 12 points and I must therefore tell my partner that I have at least that amount. But the danger is three consecutive passes and moi being left trying to… Read more »
Trevor said – If it is the opening bid, we have 12 points so have to inform our partner so I would go with 1 Spade as the AQ then 9 are higher & in a major suit. I think a bid of 1 no trumps would indicate I had A & K etc i.e. better picture cards ,but it is 12 Pts and balanced

So we opened 1 S. E then bids 1 NT, S bids 2C and W 2H. Do you keep quiet or does N bid again?

Yes I think you may be right Allison; a bid of 1 NT then. I’m easily swayed!
1NT – balanced hand and 12-14 points
I agree with Trevor, I would bid 1 spade as 12 points and spades is longest suit plus a major suit anyway.
