OUR MONTHLY MEETINGS ARE CHANGING TO LEIGH COMMUNITY CENTRE AS FROM 1ST NOVEMBER 2022 AND TO THE FIRST TUESDAY IN THE MONTH
MEETINGS COMMENCE AT 2.30. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 2.00.
Our monthly meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of the month at
Leigh Community Centre
71 – 73 Elm Road
Leigh-on-Sea SS9 1SP.
PLEASE NOTE THAT DOORS ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL 2.00PM. Access to the hall is via the ground floor café so if you do arrive early stop and chat with friends over a cuppa in the café.
Meetings will usually start with notices and any items of group news, followed by a guest speaker. Refreshments are available afterwards so members can chat to friends or maybe the speaker.
There is no charge for attendance and not only that but you can get a cuppa at the end all free of charge; so pretty good value.
There are small pay-and-display car parks in Elm Road (at rear of Leigh Community Centre/Police Station) and off North Street (east of the Wesley Methodist Church) but these do fill quickly. Parking on nearby streets is limited so please check local parking restrictions.
If you have any suggestions for speakers, please contact our Speaker Secretary by clicking the link.
It is helpful to know what you think of our Speakers, please give feedback here.

A Peek Behind the Scenes by Marion Pettet
June 17, 2021 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
Marion is a devoted fan of dance. Ballet was the passion of her life but along with the
dreams of so many other aspiring ballerinas, ordinariness got in the way. A late
return to classes rekindled her love for dance and led her into a world that she thought
had passed her by. She became involved with an amateur ballet company in 2002,
joined the committee later that year and performed with them from 2002 until 2018.
Her retirement from full time employment in 2010 coincided with her election as
Chairman when she devoted herself to the promotion and running of the company. She
successfully transferred her extensive business skills and experience into its
organisation, bringing it to the attention of a far wider audience and boosting ticket
sales by proactive marketing. Giving talks about the complexities of staging major
works brought a new dimension of understanding and enthusiasm to audiences from
around Essex and beyond.
Dance being the dream of her life, she channelled her efforts and motivation into
ensuring the future of this amateur company, leaving it in an enviable financial
position.
Now retired from her post as Chairman she continues to share her love of dance and
theatre with an entertaining talk to our u3a today.
This will be a Zoom meeting and joining details will be issued to all members nearer the time of the meeting and usually around one week ahead of the meeting.
