MEETINGS COMMENCE AT 2.30. DOORS WILL OPEN AT 2.00.

Our monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month at

Leigh Wesley Methodist Church

Elm Road

Leigh-on-Sea  SS9 1SJ.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DOORS ARE NOT OPEN UNTIL 2.00PM. AS SPACE FOR QUEUING IS LIMITED, PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE TOO EARLY (especially when cold or wet!)

Meetings will usually start with notices and items of group news, followed by a guest speaker. Refreshments are available afterwards so members can chat to friends or maybe the speaker.

There is no charge for attendance and not only that but you can get a cuppa at the end all free of charge; so pretty good value.

Please note that we are not permitted to use the car park attached to the church; however, there are small pay-and-display car parks in Elm Road (at rear of Leigh Community Centre/Police Station) and off North Street (east of the Wesley Methodist Church) but these do fill quickly. Parking on nearby streets is limited so please check local parking restrictions.

If you have any suggestions for speakers, please contact our Speaker Secretary by clicking the link.

It is helpful to know what you think of our Speakers, please give feedback here.

Punch and Judy is a popular British glove puppet form, normally played by one performer in a temporary booth erected in a public space.  It is strongly associated with the seaside.  Derived from Pulcinella, the Italian puppet show, it emerged in the UK in the Regency period (1790s-1830s).  An early show was in Covent Garden where it is commemorated by the Punch and Judy pub. Story telling – Peter Monk aka Peter Optical

October 15 @ 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Leigh Wesley Methodist Church, Elm Road
Leigh, SS9 1SJ United Kingdom
+ Google Map

We all love a good story.  Peter Optical is a past master of the art.  Southend born and bred, Peter has been a soldier, circus performer, stage electrician, actor, stilt walker, fire eater and too many other things to mention. Today it is his story telling we are concentrating on.  His stories are told not read and differ from performance to performance.  They are often interwoven with music and magic.  They are always thought provoking and never dull.

Southend Museums A royal burial site found between a pub and Aldi supermarket has been hailed as the UK's answer to Tutankhamun's tomb.  Workers unearthed the grave, which contained dozens of rare artefacts, during roadworks in Prittlewell, near Southend, Essex, in 2003.  Tooth enamel fragments were the only human remains, but experts say their "best guess" is that they belonged to a 6th Century Anglo-Saxon prince. It is said to be the oldest example of a Christian Anglo-Saxon royal burial.…
