News & Events – London Visits 2

Marble Hill

We visited on 14th July 2022 and here are just a couple of snaps taken at the time:

Banqueting House

Here are some of the members who came to Banqueting House on Monday 2nd December 2019. It’s not everyone, as there were 31 of us in all and some had shot off ahead:

Apsley House

Visiting London 2 group had a very interesting tour of the house on 29th August 2019.  The house was bought by the Duke of Wellington with part of the money he was given after the victory at the battle of Waterloo. Apsley was the first house on the north side of Piccadilly, located opposite a turnpike with toll houses, and consequently it became known as ‘Number 1, London’. Its correct postal address is now 149 Piccadilly.  It contains a large collection of very valuable paintings, silverware etc. Unfortunately, the taking of photographs inside the house was not permitted but the grandeur of the building can be seen from the photo taken outside and shown below.

London Transport Museum

On Tuesday 26th February, a bright, sunny, unusually warm day, 9 members of the London Visit 2 group travelled to Covent Garden to visit the London Transport Museum. It was very interesting day and we learned about transport around London from the 1700’s to the present day. It certainly brought back some memories for us all, but from the 1950’s and 60’s not the 1700’s!

Winnie the Pooh

A wonderful nostalgic day was spent on Tuesday 20th February, at the Winnie the Pooh exhibition within the V & A museum, London.
