Garden Lunch – June 2015
On a sunny day in June, our lunch group made their way to a garden in Leigh for a special treat. With full table service and white tableclothes, set in a garden full of summer flowers, we were going to be served a meal, Greek style, by a local lady who runs ‘Pop-up’ lunches. What a special treat it turned out to be. Starting with homemade breads with various dips and pates and followed by eleven dishes of Mediterranean style foods including tortes, meatballs, croquettes, feta cheese salads and too many more to mention. Although bursting at the seams, we all managed to slide down a delicious fresh raspberry panacotta, followed by tea and coffee. I think it would be fair to say that we all ‘rolled’ home, not from drink this time, but from so much food. Absolutely delicious and one already on the schedule for next summer.
Afternoon Tea at The Roslin Beach Hotel, December 2nd, 2013
After this afternoon, in and around Leigh, there are 30 people who are a little bit fatter and a little bit fuller. The Lunch Club decided that rather than have Christmas dinner for their festive venue, they would indulge in afternoon tea instead. I think all would agree what a very good decision it turned out to be. We had three tables of ten, all of which groaned under a wonderful array of goodies.
We started with warm quiches, quickly followed by a variety of sandwiches, filled rolls, scones with cream and jam, cakes including raspberry custard tarts, doughnuts, meringues and chocolate whirls. As if that wasn’t enough, a separate plate of Christmas cake and mince pies appeared which, needless to say, were hardly touched. The teapots were topped up time and time again and nothing was too much trouble. In fact, the only thing missing was some ‘doggy bags’. We even had a beautiful sunset, just to make things perfect.
Well done, The Roslin, we might return next year, who knows.
