National U3A Day 2020

This year National U3A day will be celebrated on Wednesday 3rd June.  Along with other local U3As (Leigh Belfairs, New Eastwood, Thorpe Bay and Southend), we will be joining those celebrations with a beach clean, clearing litter from Joscelyne’s Beach along to the Crowstone. We are hoping that you will bring your own picnic and celebrate with members from your own and other U3As afterwards. There are several areas in which to sit and socialise along that stretch of the esplanade.  Clearing of litter will include the promenade and grassed areas so also suitable for those who might find walking on sand difficult plus we will need U3A ambassadors on the promenade to chat to people about our organisation so you can help there too if picking up litter just isn’t for you.  There are toilets at either end and benches all along this area.  Nearby parking is limited and has to be paid for but Chalkwell train station is immediately next to Joscelyne’s Beach.

Sacks and litter pickers will be provided but you might prefer to bring your own gloves along.  Litter picking is anticipated to take around one hour and we aim to start at 12:30pm.

The purpose of these celebrations is to highlight awareness of the U3A movement and the benefits of being a member alongside undertaking an environmentally friendly task.

If you want to get involved and join the fun, please add your name at the monthly meetings or let Lorna know by contacting her here.  Any questions please also contact Lorna.
