Our annual membership runs from April to March, the current membership fee being £14 per annum. This fee includes a membership fee payable to the U3A Trust as well as a copy of the Trust’s publication “Third Age Matters” which is issued five times a year. Remaining money pays for our running costs such as monthly meeting hall hire, speaker costs, printing, telephone, postage etc.
If you wish to become a member and have any questions then please contact our Membership Secretary using the contact form here. An online application form can be found on the membership page. Alternatively, you can download a copy of a membership application form using the links on the membership page and post to our membership secretary (use contact form to make contact and establish the address to which completed form is to be sent.
All members are invited to our monthly meetings which take place at the Wesley Methodist Church, Elm Road, Leigh-on-Sea, SS9 1SJ. Meetings kick off at 2:30pm (doors open at 2:00pm) and usually finish around 4:00/4:30pm. Most months we have a guest speaker at the monthly meeting and a programme of upcoming speakers can be found on the EVENTS page.
(Please note that there is no parking allowed at the Church.)
Attendance is free and not only that but you can stay for a free cuppa and a catch up with friends after the speaker has finished if you wish.
Once a member of our U3A, you can get in touch with the Group Contact (GC) to join any of our interest groups. These are informal groups of members with a common interest who come together to share knowledge, explore the subject or just join up to do something they all enjoy – such as walking. Some GCs may have special knowledge, others simply make the arrangements and keep group members informed. The emphasis is always on shared learning. Most Groups welcome non-members for one trial visit by prior appointment and if you wish to continue attending it is a simple matter of enrolling with Leigh Estuary U3A.
Some interest groups meet in members’ homes but most use hired rooms such as those available in the Leigh Community Centre. Where external rooms are hired, those group members share costs between them, usually a few pounds each per meeting. Other costs interest groups might incur such as a visiting speaker or tea and biscuits are again shared between the group members.
More information about interest groups and their activities can be found on the GROUPS page
