News & Events – Local Walks 1

October 2019

Wednesday 2nd October saw 8 intrepid walkers tackling both the east and west walks on Two Tree Island. A fabulous morning stroll over an area that this writer remembers as a waste area.

Our October 2019 walk

A bit of history here folks. The 2 Trees were  just over the bridge to the left, and were next to an old sewer (just visible). The car park to the left was the original rubbish point even before skips were used.

The views across the estuary are quite unique and combined with the obligatory ” teacake and coffee” at the golf range made for a great morning.

August 2019

One of the shorter walks today, under the hour.  Starting and finishing at The Salvation Army Tea room at Hadleigh Castle. Eleven of us enjoyed the walk to the Olympic Park Cycling Area stopping at several points to take in the view over the Thames and to Kent.
After the walk the legendary coffee and teacake were taken whilst we DID NOT discuss Brexit, Boris etc.

A lovely walk we can recommend to the casual walker especially as the blackberries will soon be ripe. Thank you again to our leader, Victor.

Great Wakering

The Local walks group found themselves at Gt. Wakering this morning in glorious weather and with great views. Starting at the Gt. Wakering tip car park (yes, I know, not the prettiest of meeting places!), we walked down the road before nipping off onto FP 15 taking us via Landwick Cottages and Oxenham Farm and onto the sea wall. The walk took about an hour and we then drove to Morley’s Nursery for coffee and tea cake (Obligatory). Foot path maps are available on line or through Gt. Wakering Council offices. A jolly morning was had by all!
